Overview
What Is Marvel Cosmic Invasion?
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is an arcade-style beat-em-up developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu, in partnership with Marvel Games. It launched on December 1, 2025 across all major platforms at once.
The Story
Drawn from the Annihilation comics. Annihilus unleashes the Annihilation Wave, and a team of heroes fights through New York, Asgard, Wakanda, the Savage Land, the Moon, and the Negative Zone to stop it.
The Developers
Tribute Games, who made TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge (2022), return with a bigger roster, a deeper Cosmic Swap tag system, and art inspired by Jim Lee, John Byrne, and Jack Kirby. A free PC demo launched October 1, 2025.

How to Unlock
How to Unlock All 4 Hidden Characters
All four locked characters unlock by completing specific campaign missions. No grinding, no payments. Just play the story and they join automatically.
1
Dark Phoenix
Mission 7, Full Moon of the Insectoids. Complete the Blue Area of the Moon level and Phoenix becomes permanently playable, one of the strongest area-damage heroes.
2
Venom
Mission 9, The Flying Menagerie. Finish Destromundo. His Lethal Protector passive slows enemies during assist moves, great for dense later stages.
3
Phyla-Vell
Mission 10, The Kree/Bugs War. She appears in the tutorial but joins after the Hala level. Her Cosmic Counter restores Focus on every counter.
4
Silver Surfer
Mission 12, Free the Eater of Worlds. The last and one of the hardest unlocks. Finish Fort Galactus and he joins for the final three missions.
DLC 1: Out Now
The first DLC pack adds two playable heroes with full movesets, passives, and alternate costumes, bringing the roster to 17.
Cyclops and The Thing
Cyclops joins from the X-Men and The Thing from the Fantastic Four. Check your store for the current DLC price.
Rankings
Marvel Cosmic Invasion Tier List
Based on player-reported combat performance, passive ability strength, and coverage across all 15 campaign levels.
S Tier
Silver Surfer hovers above ground hazards and melts bosses with his Cosmic Energy beam. Storm’s aerial attacks hit crowds, keeping combos and XP flowing, the best leveler.
A Tier
Black Panther is fast with strong spear damage. Nova gives great ranged coverage. Cosmic Ghost Rider brings chain attacks and a spectacular motorcycle ultimate.
How to Play
Controls and How to Play
A standard beat-em-up control layout new players pick up in minutes. The game is rated E10+ and accessible for all ages.
Move
Left stick or D-pad to move in all directions. Jump over ground attacks and aerial enemies.
Basic Attack
Chains into combo strings. A charged version deals more damage and knocks back groups.
Block and Parry
Hold to block. A timed parry counters the attack and triggers each hero’s unique counter bonus.
Focus Special
Spends the Focus bar for a powerful unique move. Storm makes a screen-wide storm, Silver Surfer fires a wide beam.
Cosmic Swap
Instantly switch to your second hero mid-combo. The swapped-out hero slowly regains HP off-screen.
Team Attack
Swap and Special together launch a joint attack, stronger than a solo special but costs more Focus. Great for bosses.
Rewards
Cosmic Matrix, Costumes, and Unlockables
The Cosmic Matrix is the reward system. Earn Cosmic Cubes from levels and challenges, then spend them on any of the 101 total items.
Costumes and Palettes
Every hero has multiple looks. Spider-Man gets Iron Spider, Symbiote, Negative Zone, and Prowler styles. Silver Surfer shifts silver, blue, gold, bronze, red, or black.
BGM Tracks
Swap in-game music for classic Marvel gaming tracks from different eras, a treat for longtime fans.
Arcade Modifiers
Custom-lobby changers like Big Head Mode, Double Damage, and XP boosters that speed up leveling your roster.
Data Files
Lore documents on every character and major story event, great for comics fans who want extra context.
Content
Game Modes and Campaign Walkthrough
Campaign is the main mode: 15 levels plus a short tutorial. Every level after the first has 3 challenges and a hidden green Cosmic Cube for 100% completion.
Arcade Mode
Runs the same levels without the story or leveling. Adds 3 to 4 hours of replay. Most players find Campaign more rewarding, but Arcade is worth a look after the story.
Challenges
Each level has 3 challenges (two need specific heroes, one is a stage task) plus a hidden green Cosmic Cube for full completion.
Time Investment
How Long to Beat Marvel Cosmic Invasion
The campaign is intentionally short, in classic arcade style. Challenges, collectibles, leveling, and multiplayer extend the total time a lot.
Co-op
Multiplayer, Local Co-op, and Crossplay
Full cross-platform play is supported across every launch platform, active by default.
Full Crossplay
A PS5 player can team with PC, Switch 2, or Xbox Series X players in the same session, no restrictions.
Up to 4 Players
Local same-screen and online co-op, with drop-in and drop-out so friends join or leave without pausing.
Solo Friendly
Finish the full campaign solo. Difficulty scales with player count, so solo is a little harder but fully manageable.
Better in Co-op
Co-op makes later stages easier and far more spectacularly chaotic.
